Not everyone is familiar with Direct Primary Care. Here are some frequently asked questions to get a better idea of what we can offer and how things work!

Cornerstone Family Medicine is a direct primary care (DPC) clinic that strives to offer unfettered access to your personal physician at all times, not just 8-5 on weekdays. Our payment model cuts out insurance middlemen who drive up cost for minimal-to-no benefit to you. Instead of copayments, high insurance premiums and fee-for-service, we charge a flat, affordable, monthly membership fee. No third party billing or insurance dictating what kind of care you can get.

Our membership fee allows you 24/7 access to your physician. We offer same or next day appointments, home visits, and office visits. We perform common in-office procedures for little or no cost. Our clinic carries many commonly prescribed medications which we fill in-house and provide at cost. We advocate for you, helping you navigate the confusing maze of the healthcare system.

Absolutely not. Sidestepping insurance allows us to cut through red tape and deal directly with the most important person in healthcare: YOU. No insurance middlemen dictating the costs of medications, tests and procedures, freeing us to charge sensible prices with no surprise costs to you.

Aside from our top-tier access and convenience, this is arguably the biggest benefit to many of our patients. We offer at-cost medications from wholesale suppliers. We beat insurance-billed prices easily, and often beat the “$4 list” as well. We don’t make money off any prescriptions you need. You need your medications. Cost should not come between you and your health. 

If specialist visits in our area are needed, we help arrange your appointments and find the most affordable cash prices possible. In addition, we still recommend having an insurance plan or healthcare sharing plan which will cover the cost of specialists in the same way they always have.

We draw labs in our clinic and negotiate cash prices with the lab, often beating insurance-billed pricing. You can always opt to use your insurance to pay for labs if you prefer, instead.

We work with local imaging centers to negotiate cash prices which are — you guessed it– often much cheaper than insurance-based pricing.

Our services pair really well with health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible, catastrophic insurance plans, or with healthcare sharing plans which cover those expensive, sometimes unavoidable health costs like surgery and hospitalization. We can refer you to local insurance agents to optimize your health plan to get the most bang for your buck.

Yes. DPC doesn’t replace insurance, it flips it on its head. We cut insurance out of the things you most commonly need: everyday medications, seeing your personal doctor, and primary and preventive care issues. Our membership fee, however, doesn’t cover the less frequent things you need: hospitalizations, surgeries, expensive tests. Think of DPC like car insurance. When paired with health insurance plans, they cover you for when your body has a “wreck” or breaks in some major way. But your membership fee covers all the preventative things, like oil changes, tire rotations, safety inspections and minor fender benders.

Yes! Children get sick in the middle of the night, on weekends, during road trips. Their bodies, like ours, don’t conform to business hours. We are here to help you care for your children when they need it most, no matter the time or place. Many things can be handled remotely, allowing you and your family to continue your day or night with minimal interruption.

Absolutely. For now, we do not charge Medicare Part B patients any fees, including monthly fees or service charges. Eventually, once we “opt out” of Medicare, we will bill Medicare patients. We can discuss more in person, on the phone or text — whatever is easiest, for free.

We do not currently provide vaccines in our clinic, but anticipate we will in 6-12 months as our clinic gets rolling and grows. In the meantime, we partner with the Audrain Health Department and Webber Pharmacy to provide vaccines for our patients. 

No problem! We have an app for that. Call, text or video chat. Many health problems don’t need an in-person visit. We can accomodate your needs, wherever you may be. We’re one call away.
